Welfare, Health & Nutrition Schemes for Women

This initiatives support women during pregnancy, motherhood and early childcare, while promoting maternal health, nutrition and child development.

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)

-Maternity benefit scheme-

The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a maternity benefit scheme that provides financial assistance to eligible pregnant women and lactating mothers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The incentive encourages early pregnancy registration, regular antenatal check-ups, institutional delivery and child immunization.

POSHAN Abhiyaan

-National Nutrition Mission-

POSHAN Abhiyaan is a nutrition scheme for women and children that aims to reduce malnutrition among pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent girls and children below six years. Its objectives include reducing anemia among women, improving maternal nutrition, reducing low birth weight and promoting healthy child development.

Anganwadi Services

-Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS)-

Anganwadi Services provide Anganwadi benefits including supplementary nutrition, health check-ups, immunization support, referral services, nutrition education and preschool education. The services support pregnant women, lactating mothers and children below six years.

Mother and Child Tracking System (MCTS)

-Maternal healthcare tracking India-​

The Mother and Child Tracking System supports maternal healthcare tracking in India by monitoring pregnancies and child healthcare. The digital platform helps support timely antenatal check-ups, vaccinations, institutional deliveries and child immunization.

Education Schemes for Girls

Education is one of the strongest tools for women’s empowerment. These government initiatives support girls through schooling, higher education, financial assistance, nutrition, life skills, vocational training and academic guidance, helping create greater opportunities for their future.

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP)

The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme promotes the value of the girl child, girl child education and gender equality. The programme encourages families to educate daughters and supports greater participation of women and girls in society.

Scheme for Adolescent Girls

The Scheme for Adolescent Girls supports eligible girls aged 11–14 years, particularly those who are out of school in eligible areas. The programme provides nutrition support, health education, life skills, vocational training and guidance to help girls continue or rejoin education.

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY)

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is a government-backed savings scheme for girls below 10 years of age. It supports secure long-term savings and can help families plan for a girl’s higher education and future needs, along with applicable tax benefits.

National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary Education

This scheme encourages girls, particularly those from SC/ST communities, to continue their secondary education by providing financial incentives after completion of Class VIII.

CBSE Udaan

CBSE Udaan supports girl students preparing for engineering entrance examinations through free online study material, virtual learning support, mentoring and academic guidance.

Mahila Samakhya Programme

Mahila Samakhya empowers women through education by promoting literacy, leadership, critical thinking, community participation and awareness of women’s rights.

SAFETY & PROTECTION

Women Safety & Protection Schemes

Government initiatives for women’s safety and protection provide support for women and girls facing violence, abuse, trafficking, exploitation and other forms of distress. These services include emergency assistance, counselling, shelter, rehabilitation and support for accessing appropriate authorities and services.

One Stop Centre (OSC)

One Stop Centers provide women safety support services to women affected by violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking and other forms of abuse. The centers provide integrated support such as medical assistance, counselling, legal aid, temporary shelter and police assistance under one roof. Also this scheme is funded through the Nirbhaya Fund.

Women Helpline – 181

Women Helpline – 181 is a toll-free support service for women facing violence, harassment or distress. It helps connect women with appropriate support services, including emergency assistance, counselling, legal support and police assistance.

Swadhar Greh

Swadhar Greh provides institutional support and rehabilitation services for women in difficult circumstances, including women who are homeless, survivors of violence, released from prison or without adequate family or social support.

Ujjawala Scheme

Ujjawala focuses on the prevention of trafficking, rescue and rehabilitation of victims of trafficking, and efforts to prevent exploitation and re-trafficking.

Cyber Crime Prevention against Women & Children (CCPWC)

This initiative focuses on preventing and addressing cyber crimes against women and children through awareness, capacity building, investigation support and mechanisms for reporting and responding to cyber-related offences.

Skill Development, Employment & Entrepreneurship Schemes for Women

Financial independence is a key pillar of women’s empowerment. These government schemes help women build careers, develop skills, access financial support, start businesses and create sustainable livelihood opportunities.

DAY-NRLM & Lakhpati Didi

Under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), women are organized into Self Help Groups (SHGs). The Lakhpati Didi Initiative supports women in improving their annual income through entrepreneurship, agriculture, livelihood training and financial inclusion.

Bank Sakhi Programme

The Bank Sakhi Programme empowers rural women by training them as Banking Correspondents, digital banking facilitators and financial literacy ambassadors. The programme promotes greater access to banking and financial services in rural communities.

Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana provides collateral-free business loans to women entrepreneurs under the Shishu, Kishore and Tarun categories. These loans support startups, small businesses and self-employment.

STEP – Support to Training and Employment Programme for Women

STEP provides professional skill training in various sectors to improve employability and entrepreneurship among women aged 16 years and above.

Mahila e-Haat

Mahila e-Haat is a digital marketing platform that enables women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products and services directly to customers without intermediaries.

Rashtriya Mahila Kosh (RMK)

Rashtriya Mahila Kosh provides microfinance support to economically weaker women for small businesses, self-employment, income generation and entrepreneurship.

PMGDISHA

PMGDISHA promotes digital literacy by providing training in computer usage, internet browsing, digital payments, email communication and access to online government services. Women constitute a significant percentage of programme beneficiaries.

SVAMITVA Scheme

The SVAMITVA Scheme uses drone technology to issue property ownership records in rural India. It can help women secure legal ownership of residential property and improve their access to financial services.

Working Women Hostel Scheme

The Working Women Hostel Scheme provides safe and affordable accommodation for working women, single women, widows and women undergoing training. Many hostels also provide daycare facilities for children.

National Crèche Scheme

The National Crèche Scheme supports working mothers by providing quality daycare facilities for children aged 6 months to 6 years, helping women continue their education or employment while receiving childcare support.
